Hi, I’m Bimarsh, a 2nd semester CSIT student from Nepal.
I’ve been around computers since I was a kid. In school I learned QBasic, C, HTML and CSS, and I’ve started JavaScript a few times too. I got as far as objects on javascript.info, and then I stopped.
I enjoy programming, but somewhere along the way I always get lost. To be honest, I don’t think I lack motivation. What I lack is discipline. I’ve started many things and left them when I got bored, I procrastinate a lot, and I try to learn everything at once.
I don’t want that to happen again, so this time I’m learning in public. Writing here every week makes me accountable to something outside my own head.
The plan
- 1 hour of JavaScript every day for the next 4 weeks
- One small project each week: a marks calculator, a helper-functions file, a to-do list, and a page that fetches data from an API
- A short post here every Saturday about what I learned and where I got stuck
- All my code on GitHub, pushed regularly
- A planned break during exams, then a proper restart
- One rule: never miss two days in a row
The honest part
My exams are about four to five weeks away, and I’m preparing for C++ and other subjects alongside JS. If I miss days, I’ll say so in these posts.
Why I’m doing this
I want to become a software developer, land an internship, and eventually do work that makes me happy, the kind of work little me imagined when I was first introduced to programming. I know that takes months of showing up, not one burst of motivation. This blog is my record that I showed up.
What’s next
Next Saturday: Week 1, objects and arrays.
If you’re also learning to code, or you’ve been stuck in the “start, quit, restart” cycle, I’d love to hear how you stay consistent.
See you next Saturday.
